A grant from the City of Leicester Education Fund has contributed to staffing costs of running the St Phillip’s Centre School’s Linking Project, supporting interfaith relations in local schools and communities.
The pupils and students who took part have been given the opportunity to learn about the concepts of identity, community and justice – whilst exploring the benefits that diversity offers us as a society. This is something that will have a lasting impact on these young people and have a positive impact on the community cohesiveness of the local area going forward into the future. When young people have made friends across apparent lines of difference, they will see that the identity markers that are used to label us and put us into groups, are not the things that are important when it comes to making friends and building relationships. They will be able to identify the invisible similarities, or the shared interests and values that they may have with someone else – and realise that these are the things that matter.
