David Lindley - volunteer

After a career of over 34 years in policing, culminating in Leicestershire as Deputy Chief Constable, with a Queens Police Medal for Distinguished Service,  David now spends much of his life outdoors, drystone walling in Bradgate Park where he is also a Trustee and working on the many nature reserves across the county managed by the Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust. He is a founder trustee of the Garment and Textile Workers Trust working closely with local groups to help address many of the ills affecting garment workers in Leicester.

David began his valuable volunteering support for the Community Foundation during the Covid 19 pandemic. The Community Foundation gave around £1.5m in local emergency grants on behalf of the National Emergencies Trust, government and private donors, to many established and new local charitable groups working long hours to support our communities.  David was part of a team who made calls to groups to understand the work they were doing, ensure the emergency grant was doing all it needed to do, and note any key areas of success or concern.

David has continued his volunteering to support charitable groups given grants from the many private and public funds we manage, especially those groups who are new to receiving grants, or are overdue in sending their end-of-grant report. He ensures everything is on track and offers support if required, informing the grants team if the group would like to request change of use to the grant, highlighting excellent projects, and raising any needs that may require further intervention; his long experience is a huge asset in our work and a support to many charitable groups and the communities they serve.
