Leicestershire and Rutland Community Foundation is an accredited member of the UKCF network. Working in partnership with the Charities Commission, through the UKCF “Revitalising Trusts” Programme, we transfer charitable trusts, foundations and even charitable companies that are no longer working as you’d like. Perhaps administrative duties are too time-consuming, the aim is outdated, it’s difficult to recruit new trustees or attract the right applicants – or having done an excellent job for years, it’s just time to move on.
Several of the funds the Community Foundation manages are previous charities or trusts; set up years or even centuries ago. They became difficult to manage, inactive or completely dormant, and so were transferred to the Community Foundation.
The Community Foundation works with the Charity Commission and a trust transfer expert to ensure all legal obligations are met in the transfer and support you through the transfer process.
We can usually retain the original name, and we stay true to the spirit of original intent, even if we update it for the 21st century. Previous Trustees may stay involved in making decisions on grants, and receive annual reports, if they wish – or leave all responsibility to the Community Foundation.
The Charity Commission have acknowledged and support the work of Community Foundations in revitalising moribund (dormant) or ineffective trusts https://www.gov.uk/guidance/get-help-for-your-inactive-or-ineffective-charity
