Sports Relief Community Cash provided a £1000 grant to fund a Ball4All summer camp, which allowed young people in Rutland to advance physically and mentally through basketball training and self-improvement lessons. The Ball4All group is passionate about teaching basketball to young people, as it makes for health-conscious, talented and successful sportspeople in later life.
The thirty children that took part in the summer camp were taught lessons in self-discipline, self-control, self-respect and respect for others, all important aspects of sportsmanship. These could be employed during the many basketball games they played as part of the camp, as well as being helpful qualities to take away and use in real life.
The grant enabled young people, regardless of their sporting ability, to come together and play the sport that they all enjoy while building their confidence, and the ability to connect with new people or make friends. Young people are taught to be proud of their achievements, and to have a positive outlook on life which can be beneficial for mental health.
This grant has also benefited the wider community too, as it has taught children the necessary lessons to keep them out of trouble, out of gangs and off the street, making them and the community that little bit safer.
