SWEF believes that a successful business can transform the lives of individuals and their families, while also increasing economic activity in their local community.
SWEF backs young individuals (those aged 18-30 years), with grant funding and support, for their business initiatives.
Grant purpose
SWEF offers two types of grants:
- Start-Up Grant: Up to £500 for pre-revenue or early-stage businesses
- Business Grant: Up to £2,000 for established businesses (with trading income)
This Fund is not a loan scheme. If you are awarded a grant, you do not need to pay the grant back.
To apply, you must be:
- Aged between 18 and 30
- Be a majority shareholder
- Currently live in Leicester, Leicestershire or Rutland
- From a low-income household or facing other barriers stopping you from developing your business
- Running a business that has been trading for under two years
- Individuals or teams working on a newly established business i.e. has been trading for less than 2 years
- Able to demonstrate the time and resources you have already directed towards the business
Your business must be registered as a:
- Sole trader, or
- Limited company/CICs limited by shares.
Key information
Deadline: There is no deadline, please apply when you are ready. It is important to note that funds are limited, and the programme will close when all funds have been allocated.
Grant size: There are two types of grants: start-up grant of £500 for pre-revenue or early-stage businesses and business development grants up to £2,000 for established businesses (with trading income)
Priority: Young people (aged 18–30).
Geographical focus: Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland
Delivery period: Following submission of your application you should expect to receive an outcome in 8 weeks. You will have 12 months to deliver your proposal.
