In April 2014 Loughborough District Scouts were successful in securing a £1,000 grant from Red Nose Day Community Cash to support a scout group for special needs service users in Ashmount School.
The project has been a great triumph and over the year period of the grant funding their young people participation has shot up from two to eleven while adult volunteers increased from two to six.
The group have been able to enhance their weekly meetings with a range of different activities and pieces of equipment. Activity highlights over the year have included juggling, woggle making, aboriginal art, badge making, compass skills, swimming, a visit to the Dog’s Trust and football coaching.
The group have also been cycling, camping, hiking and karting!
Currently Loughborough Scouts are preparing for an upcoming climbing trip and their second residential experience in Sherwood Forest.
The group is continuing to grow and has recently had a new member join their ranks.
Colin Laws who has led the project says, ‘I think on reflection it has exceeded my expectations.’
A huge congratulations to Colin and all of the scouts involved!
