The Richi Rootz Foundation was set up in 2012 in memory of Leicester-based musician and social worker Richi Rootz, who suffered a serious stroke in 2011 at the age of just 48. The foundation, set up by Richi’s wife Mel and friends with help from the Leicestershire and Rutland Community Foundation has so far raised more than £4,000 for local charities.
This year, the annual ‘Richi Rootz Nite’ has made some £1030 for the Laura Centre, which supported Mel and her daughter through their loss. In previous years, this popular event has helped to provide support for young stroke victims and to raise awareness of younger stroke sufferers locally to help improve their experience in hospital.
