Local groups and organisations with great ideas to make their communities even better places to live are now invited to apply for funding to turn their ideas into reality.
Using money raised by society lotteries through The Health Lottery, People’s Health Trust has opened Active Communities in HealthBelief – Northamptonshire, Leicestershire and Leicester.
Active Communities is a funding programme for community groups and not-for-profit organisations, with an income of less than £350,000 a year, that are seeking investment of between £5,000 and £50,000 for projects lasting up to two years. The projects should take place within a small area for a small group of people such as 20 or 30 streets or a couple of villages.
Geographical Areas eligible to apply are as follows:
Charnwood District – 8 fundable neighbourhoods
City of Leicester – 116 fundable neighbourhoods
Hinckley and Bosworth District – 3 fundable neighbourhoods
North West Leicestershire District – 5 fundable neighbourhoods
Oadby and Wigston District – 1 fundable neighbourhood
You can check your organisation’s postcode for eligibility here: http://www.peopleshealthtrust.org.uk/apply-for-funding
Some key pointers:
Most good ideas will be considered as long as they improve connections between people and help make neighbourhoods better. Examples could include a mediation service run by tenants, computer skills classes for older people group or a community transport service in a rural area.
The emphasis is on projects designed and run by local people and these can be ongoing or new project ideas. Projects must run from a minimum of 6 months up to 2 years.
A briefing is taking place on Wednesday 5 March 2pm – 4pm The Brite Centre, Braunstone Avenue, Leicester LE3 1LE.
Application involves a simple online process with a step by step guide from start to finish.
The deadline for applications is 1pm on Wednesday 2 April 2014.
