Thanks to a donation from a local benefactor interested in supporting carers in the Market Harborough area, Leicestershire and Rutland Community Foundation was able to provide funding for the Voluntary Action South Leicestershire Carers Project.
Looking after ill and elderly relatives can be very tiring and isolating for carers. They rely on this project – Support for Carers – for quality time out to relax and socialise so they can cope with their day-to-day lives.
Around 24 carers a month benefit from complementary therapies and pampering sessions that can include back, neck and shoulder massage, reflexology, Indian head massage and Reiki.
Asked what they think of the sessions some carers said:
“It’s a chance to put a date in your diary and know that day is for me to take a breather from the normal everyday routine.
It makes you realise just how much a treatment is needed. You feel so relaxed and it can be quite emotional. It’s good to meet other carers of all ages who are going through the same as yourself.
I leave the treatment session feeling relaxed and ready for my role as a carer. I really don’t know how I would cope without it. I am so grateful!”
Diane Claridge from Support for Carers said the pampering sessions are clearly needed and appreciated by everyone who takes part. She would like to extend everyone’s grateful thanks for supporting the project, which is set to run for another 12 months.
