In July 2015 Melton Foxes Junior Football Club were awarded £1,000 through Leicestershire and Rutland Community Foundation. The funding came from the Mars in the Community Fund.
Funding was awarded to purchase football kit and equipment.
Melton Foxes Junior football club is a football club run by volunteers for the Melton and surrounding area community. The club has more than two hundred players with ages ranging from Under 7’s to Under 17’s.
Specifically in the under 7’s year group the team is set up to help the players enjoy the game and have fun. Melton Foxes want children to fall in love with the game and measure success by a low dropout rate and ongoing positive player development.
Further to the funding being awarded, the match kits have provided the young people with a sense of belonging to a team.
Keith Smith, the Under 7’s manager said, ‘The young people are very proud to wear the new kit and even wore it to go on the pitch at a premier league football match. The rain jackets have enabled us to train outside over the winter, and have ensured that the lads kept dry. Ultimately this has meant less training cancellations and so improved fitness through more physical activity.’
