Veggie Growing for All in Ullesthorpe Village
The Ullesthorpe Environment Group aims to make Ullesthorpe a greener, more sustainable and attractive community to live in. The group does this through practical projects and community engagement. Activities to date have included litter picks and a one day Save Money Go Green event held in conjunction with the Rural Community Council.
The Veggie Growing for All event was aimed at newcomers to veggie growing as well as more experienced growers. The event brought together over 150 people of all ages from Ullesthorpe. Attendees shared their expertise, learning from each other and planted their own seeds.
Group Chair, Maggie Pankhurst, said; “The event is still talked about as being one of the best in the village for some time.”
Since the grant from the Community Foundation and the very successful event, the Ullesthorpe Environment Group have been involved in discussions about increasing the number of local allotments, a plant and produce sharing scheme and undertaking similar events in the future.
