Hanwill Fund Case Study
Saturday Friendship Group
A morning social group on Saturdays for people with mental health issues
The Saturday Friendship Group aims to reduce social isolation for people suffering from long-term mental health issues in Market Harborough and surrounding areas. The group does this by providing opportunities for social meeting and activities.
The Saturday Friendship Group has allowed a safe and non-judgemental space where users can access peer support and friendship. The regular meeting place has helped to alleviate feelings of boredom, isolation and loneliness. Activities at the group have included card games, board games, dominoes and bingo.
Group Secretary, Shirley Davis, said; “We had a growing number of people attending in just five weeks and the project has developed in a short time beyond expectations.”
Since the grant from the Hanwill Fund, members have reported improved confidence levels and requested more contact hours – increasing the group’s meeting time from 2 hours to 3.
