Girl Guides Association – Topstones
To purchase indoor climbing equipment for use by women, young girls and special needs groups
Topstones is a residential activity centre for young people used by Guides, Scouts, members of disability groups and schools. Topstones aims to provide a varied activity programme and facilities in a rural environment. Activities they provide include pedal go karts, grass sledges and outdoor cooking.
With the indoor climbing equipment, Topstones aimed to get participants from under-represented groups to experience a new and practical activity that sparked an interest in improving physical fitness.
Bridget Ellen Towle, President, said; ‘The grant has enabled many young people to take part in a new and challenging activity that otherwise they would not have had the opportunity to try. The activity has been even more popular with the young people than we ever expected.”
Since receiving funding, over 1,400 girls have experienced and enjoyed this new activity, including eight special needs groups, who now regularly visit Topstones.
