Pablo’s Horse Sanctuary is an animal sanctuary based in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire and run entirely by volunteers. It aims to give sanctuary and provide the care needed to unwanted, abandoned or abused horses and ponies and gives the opportunity for people to become involved in their care.
Therapeutic horsemanship is provided for people with behavioural challenges, mental health problems and learning difficulties, helping to improve their mental and physical well-being and social skills.
In 2014 we funded Pablo’s through our Leicestershire First fund. A total grant of £1,893 was awarded and was used to fund a part-time worker to arrange and supervise activities for local children with learning and physical disabilities.
Since the grant therapeutic horsemanship has been provided to many local mainstream and special needs schools, youth clubs, brownie groups and individual young people.
Users have also included those on the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, young people in care, those with autism and learning difficulties, as well as some people with Down Syndrome and even people facing barriers to employment.
Pablo’s continues to do great work and the Community Foundation was very pleased to have helped with funding!
