New Leaf Triangle is a Community Interest Company that provides a fun, supportive, stress-free, natural learning environment to help individuals of all ages to ‘grow’ and cope with life’s challenges. They provide educational & therapeutic sessions for individuals, families or groups with autism, ADHD, behaviours that challenge, learning difficulties, social & emotional difficulties and a range of mental health conditions in an outdoor environment with opportunities to interact with animals, including horses, with specialised, personalised support.
Funding of £2,250 from the Leicestershire Fund and the Lord Lieutenant’s Fund for Leicestershire & Rutland contributed towards family sessions for families of children with complex needs during weekends and holidays. Activities include therapeutic riding, interaction with animals (goats, rabbit, chickens, dogs, rats), sports, arts and crafts, musical activities, camp fires and fun games including treasure hunts. Children can also use the play equipment including a basket swing, trampoline and wooden play castle or relax in the sensory stable, on bean bags or on the hammock seat. Sessions are tailored to the needs of the whole family so each is different, and activities are provided for all siblings, not just the child with the disability. Parents can join in or choose to take some time to relax with a drink in the log cabin or out in the sunshine!
New Leaf Triangle’s activities are designed to promote family cohesion and avoid family break downs, reducing possible future demands on council services for additional support, and to provide respite for single parent families. The sessions also promote the participation of vulnerable children and people in worthwhile, educational activities in their local area, helping them gain independence by developing communication, social skills, skills in making and communicating choices and being part of a team.
