Friends of Newbold Verdon is a small social group welcoming anyone from the village of Newbold Verdon or surrounding area. The group meets twice a month from September to June for social tea, coffee and biscuit sessions, and usually have a raffle and a speaker. Once a year the group also arrange an outing.
The group’s activity sessions have included craft sessions for children, art and painting sessions, talks by local historians and musicians, talks on bee keeping, canal boating and even optical illusions and magic tricks.
In October 2014 the Community Foundation awarded an £800 grant from the Hanwill Fund to help the group with costs towards a portfolio of speakers and also to contribute to a day trip to Barnsdale Gardens in Rutland.
The group helps local residents to reduce feelings of loneliness and social isolation and is great way for people to meet with and make new friends.
