After receiving a grant from Leicestershire and Rutland Community Foundation’s Local Donors Fund, Home-Start North West Leicestershire recently provided ‘Mums In Mind’ (MIMs), an 8-week course supporting local mothers with post-natal illness.
Home-Start NWL has been offering support to families for 30 years and for 15 years to those with post-natal illness through MIMs.
The course covered how to develop coping strategies, helping with the baby-bonding process, as well as increasing the development of very young babies and the well-being of the whole family, including older siblings. A partners’ evening session was also held, as it can be forgotten they are also seriously affected by post-natal illness. A Health Visitor and Midwife co-facilitated each session, enabling the highest level of support to all attendees.
One of the mums said:
“‘Mums in Mind’ saved my life. I am more confident and happy, and feel I can be the mum I always hoped to be.”
The course was so successful the ‘MIMs’ mums have voluntarily planned to meet regularly for peer support.
