Leicestershire and Rutland Community Foundation are looking to appoint a Trainee Communications Assistant.

Responsible to CEO; working with the team and specified mentors
Location: Home, central Leicester office, occasional local and very occasional national travel.
Salary: £16,777 to £20,000 depending on any relevant experience or qualifications.
Hours: 37 per week.
Annual Leave: 25 days + bank holidays.
Contract: Two-year trainee role. Possible extension to a permanent role, though this will be dependent on funding. Start date to be agreed; it can be immediate.

We set up and manage grant-giving funds for families, individuals and companies. We also deliver grants locally for government, and we reinvigorate dormant funds.
We give grants to local charitable and voluntary groups that help keep Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland thriving. We are one of 46 UK Community Foundations.
Overview of the Role
You’ll be a part of a small, busy, friendly team, helping develop donor satisfaction and our overall profile.
An important part of the job will be administrative, and you will use our CRM system daily, so you need to show us you can work confidently with Microsoft Office applications: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and databases, and you’ll need to be someone who enjoys organising.
You’ll need to be able to write and edit excellent English because you’ll follow up many grants we give, and write about them for formal reports, press releases, our website and social media. Basic design skills would be a real bonus.
You’ll work with the team, donors, charitable groups and other stakeholders, and Community Foundations nationally at times, so need to enjoy supporting people.
We are a small charity, so you will start working and learning immediately, and will help us make the most of tight resources. You will have plenty of opportunities to develop skills.
We’re not focused on formal qualifications; we’re looking for someone who can show skills and interests developed at school, college, university, or in paid or volunteer work, that will enable them to do this job. There will be a short test and an interview for those shortlisted.
Main Tasks of the Job
Immediately:
- Donor support including helping manage donor requirements, ensuring records are kept up-to-date, assisting with donor and funder reporting
- Track and file all End-of-Grant reports, including photos.
- Spot and write short stories from End of Grant reports, for various audiences.
- Play a big part in developing our social media presence
- Help look after our website: updating pictures, news, etc
- Help organise and support events, external and internal
Working towards in the longer term:
- Basic research in preparation for meetings and presentations.
- Some formal note taking
- Help develop and maintain a coherent and engaging brand identity
- Use analytics to develop communication methods to raise profile, and gain leads
- Develop more traditional media coverage, building media contacts
- Any other reasonable tasks as directed by the CEO
Skills Needed
- Good organisational skills with strong attention to detail
- Ability to work confidently with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher etc) and our bespoke database
- Good writing skills to help bring to life our work, for different audiences
- A good understanding of social media platforms, and willingness to learn how to uses these in a professional context
- Ability to learn internal and external policies and processes, in line with GDPR, Charity Law, and our own rigorous Quality Accreditation process
- A willing, customer-oriented approach; experience and ability to work well with people from a wide range of cultural and social backgrounds.
- A positive approach to varied tasks: some exciting, some mundane
- A team player who can also work independently, and is keen to develop,
