An award of £2,650 from the CAP Fund has helped BACA organise a trip for young people seeking asylum.
About a quarter of the young people at BACA are suspected victims of human trafficking. The 16-18 year olds arrive in the UK from a number of different countries, including Syria, Iran, Afghanistan, Vietnam and many have horrifying stories to tell. As a result, they face the risk of suffering from trauma, depression and shame. BACA aims to reduce the risks by providing specialist support.
The CAP Fund donation enabled them to organise a trip for four nights to the New Horizons Outward Bound Centre in Wales. The trip allowed the young people to spend time together, as they are placed in different homes. Activities ranged from mountain climbing to canoeing and helped the young people overcome fear and build confidence while having fun.
Since 2006, BACA has provided supported accommodation and development training to young people, specifically with separated young people who are seeking asylum, some of whom have been victims of human trafficking.
Over time BACA has built significant knowledge and experience in working with young people who have been trafficked or are at a risk of trafficking. They are working extremely hard to minimise trafficked children going missing by providing safe and appropriate accommodation with support every day, for 365 days a year.
