FAQ
Does my entire donation have to go into the Fund, or could some of it go directly to a cause?
Yes; we can help you give directly to the cause or community group of your choice, or to fulfill your funding priorities. We have a presence that genuinely works across rural and urban areas, and we consistently observe and map activity in our local communities, so we can show you in detail what is out there in need of support.
Will my donation have my name on it?
Sometimes donors want to remain anonymous. You may want to give your fund any name of your choice, even it is not a family or company name. Or you can add your fund to a general fund, stipulating what you want it to support.
I’m not sure where I want my support to go
We can show you where there are areas of need, and help you decide where you want your support to go. We are constantly updating our knowledge of local need, and we are networked throughout the community and charity world. We can also help you change you area of support too, over the years. We can involve you as much or as little as you like in giving; and can arrange for you to meet those you have helped – or keep you anonymous if you prefer.
Do you only give out money locally?
We are good at giving locally but we also have networks which enable us to help you if you want to give to nationally or even internationally. We focus on giving you a picture of need so that you can decide how to give.
Are there are other Community Foundations?
We are one of about 60 in the UK; most counties and major cities have a Community Foundation. There are Community Foundations in over 50 other countries. We are part of a Community Foundation Network which means we share best practice and technical know-how. We can usually put you in personal touch or you can visit:

What does the Foundation take for overheads?
Like the community groups we support, we work frugally. Neither our staff nor our office is large and we’ll use donated equipment and space whenever we can. Trustees do not take expenses and even donate to our Fund themselves.

However there are costs to running the Foundation. We manage large sums of money in and out of the Foundation, and we pay bank fees. We make sure our staff members are well trained and skilled at what they do.
We negotiate a small percentage of donations to cover running costs.
